How To Play

Rules

The rules are detailed on the Discord server, and are there to ensure that everyone has a fun experience. By signing up to the game, you are agreeing to abide by the short list of rules.

How to Play

  1. Player posts take the form of an official Log entry in the official-crew-logs channel
  2. Players are expected to post once a week to move the story along, and can post more often if they wish to
  3. Players can post more casual, introspective or trival logs in the personal-crew-logs if they like - there is no minimum posting requirement in this channel
  4. Players describe the scenes in the log entry - they are free to drive the narrative forward in describing their character's actions and reaction, and also to add in details, flavour, NPCs, turn of events, dramatic sequences etc.
  5. Players can request information from the Ship's Computer (GM) and receive either information back or an instruction to roll on one of the Rolling Tables and react accordingly
  6. Please use the post format pinned in both the official-crew-logs and personal-crew-logs channels
  7. If you are joining mid-game, please review the briefing channel for the latest information, or the briefing page

What happens if I can't play

We understand that real life happens, so if you are on holiday or unable to post for a few weeks, please let the GM know ahead of time and we can roleplay your absence. If you are absent for an extended period, your role may become available for a new player to take on with a new character.

Roleplaying Tips

  1. This format assumes that players are collaborative and considerate of other players
  2. Shorter, more frequent posts keep the story ticking along better than less frequent, large posts
  3. ** Try not to remove agency from another player ** - if you describe an action on their behalf ensure that it is a minor action or dialogue, and try and keep it in character for them e.g.

I felt nervous as I stepped up onto the transporter, not knowing what we would find when we materialised. The transporter chief gave me a nod and on the Captain’s command of ‘Energise’ slide the controls down and I felt the expected tingle as my atoms were scrambled.

  4. You don’t have to respond to every action detailed by others, but can pick the story up at a natural point for your character
  5. Ending a post on a hook for another character in the scene is helpful e.g.

I turned to Lt Jones and waited expectantly for her orders.

  6. If you need inspiration, you can read and/or roll on the random tables in #rolling-channel - you do not need to wait for permission from the Ship's Computer
  7. A simple guide to the ship and its technology is here, technobabble ideas and generators can be found here
